So, first time I ask for help on this forum, but I think you guys are helpful so I'll try. :)

I just bough a Xonar Phoebus soundcard, installed it in my computer, plugged my speakers in, plugged the power cable in. It was all nice, my PC booted and the LED lit up. I downloaded the drivers from the website then installed them. I figured out how to set things up, set it to 5.1 surround. It was all good until I started Foobar to see the sound quality. It was HORRIBLE, as horrible as my onboard audio(Realtek AC'97) , even my 10$ legacy PCI sound card which i bought years ago was a hundred times better...

I just don't know what to do. Do I have to set something up in a specific way or try other audio settings? I have no clue, the sound can't be this horrible with a soundcard as expensive as this. Also my rear speakers and the center speaker doesn't even work unless I check the Built-In speakers option in the Dolby Home Theater V4 under Surround Virtualizer.

Can any of you guys help me? I'm really desperate now, I tried anything and the only thing I find about the card is the reviews. I searched on Google for an hour now and still nothing.

Thanks in advance.

Lol...

Sound cards don't effect speakers.

Your speakers are the problem, not the sound card. like @Verne said, they don't magically make things sound better.

Return the sound card and buy better speakers.

I have good speakers, I'm not using some cheap sound system, but like I said, the sound is actually almost worse than the onboard.

What speakers are they? The sound is probably worse because you have some weird EQ on or something like that.

I have a Genius SW 5.1 3000 5.1 surround system. I think they are pretty good, definitely not the best, but pretty good. But that's the problem, I don't know how to really set up the EQ. I'm not even sure how to configure everything properly, that's what I actually asked, for help to set it up correctly. It should sound better than my onboard. The bass is really faint and sometimes the rear ones don't work if I don't set them up like I stated above.

So you spend $200 on a sound card for $100 speakers and you thought it was going to make a world of difference?

GOOD speakers don't need an EQ.

No amount of EQ or tweaking will make those speakers sound good.

Return the sound card and buy something like this, or these.

Pretty much this. Sorry about your Logitech speakers.

Enjoy those tacos now, for in 1000 years they will be illegal... eh Ha Ha Ha! I think we all know why.
