Hey there guys, so I'm looking to upgrade my current pc build, but I'm not very tech-savy when it comes to compatibility.

Essentially, I want to upgrade my cpu.
I've got a decent graphics card, but a pretty old cpu, I want to upgrade it - but of course I'll need new ram, new motherboard and so on and on. I'm bad when it comes to compatibility so I haven't got a clue what motherboard/ram should I get.
This build is for gaming and rendering videos.

Here's what I was looking at;

AMD Ryzen 7 1700

ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS
G.Skill RipjawsV DDR4 16GB (2x8GB) 2400MHz CL15 1.2V XMP 2.0

My current specs;
Intel Core i5 2320 @ 3.00GHz Sandy Bridge 32nm Technology
Gigabyte Technology Co. Ltd. H61M-DS2 (Socket 1155)
8.00GB Dual-Channel DDR3 @ 665MHz
NVIDIA GeForce GTX 960

PSU OCZ StealthXStream 2 600W

Cooler Master Elite 430, Midl tower black, w/o PSU, mATX / ATX

Any help is greatly appreciated! Thanks in advance guys! :)

Don't get a 7600. Get a Ryzen 5 1600 with a B350 board, it's better.

If you want to get an Intel CPU, get the 7700 ;)

This build is for gaming.

While people have recommended hardware that is very good in general, I would first consider exactly what games you'll be playing. Then go to reputable sources that have tested those games on both Intel and AMD chips of the same tier, like LinusTechTips, Gamers Nexus, or pretty much any other big tech-tuber. See whose chips those games are more optimized for (AMD or Intel), and then choose a cpu from that manufacturer from one of the ones recommended here! If you need help finding a mobo and RAM for it after that, just let us know! Best of wishes!

Thanks, I've gone out and done just that - watched a lot of jay, linus and I'm very impressed with ryzen in general, so I thought I should pick the R7 1700. I'll need a change of the motherboard as well as ram - but again, I'm not very good when it comes to compatibility. I'd be using this:

AMD Ryzen 7 1700

ASUS PRIME B350-PLUS
G.Skill RipjawsV DDR4 16GB (2x8GB) 2400MHz CL15 1.2V XMP 2.0

Would this work?

When it comes to Ryzen motherboard problems and such, it is known that MOST of the MSI's motherboard's have some issues with Ryzen, some Tomahawk boards don't (dont know if it's true, just heard). Some boards (in general) have problems handling way too fast RAMs, 3000Mhz should be all good.

I think this looks great! I think that'll make for one great build. I personally prefer ASUS and G Skill to other brands, so thumbs up there. As for the Ryzen 1700, also a great choice, as you should be able to overclock it in the future if you upgrade the cooler. Good luck with your upgrade!
