Sim card problem in J7 Max

I having Samsung Galaxy J7 Max bought from India, but now I have came Canada for study purpose. I want to buy a sim card, I tried freedom sim but its not working. A friend of mine having J7 (2016), his phone is also from India but he is using chatr sim card, I want to know whether same sim card will work with my phone or not.
