hey guys,

so need some help choosing here. so thanks to the miners I sold my RX 470 Ref yesterday for a pretty good mark up, and Bought a Strix 970 and pocketed some of that so even though its small got a upgrade and made some money.

but today talking to a guy at work and he is keen to buy the 970 off me for what I paid and if i put in a little I can get myself a 1060 3Gb, and its that 3Gb thats really holding me back. I'm don't feel like putting in more money to get the 6Gb version so no option there.

what you guys rate, the 1060 worth it or with the larger texture games would I be better off with the 4Gb 970 and a small FPS knock. Playing at 1080p and both do more than 140fps in CSGO for my 144Hz screen.

Just never really looked at the 1060 3GB

Actually, the 970 you bought isn't quite 4gb. There was a controversy a couple years back about the last .5gbs of vram being significantly slower than the rest, so it was really considered a 3.5gb card by most people. Just for CSGO, I wouldn't advise spending a bit more to get a bit more here, if you're already getting 140 fps on max settings.

I've had a 970 and did really enjoy it, upgraded to a 980 and both share the 3.5Gb issue which I never saw.

I play a lot more than CS:Go a whole heap of old and new games, not really playing to many AAA titles but know games are moving beyond 4GB already, Just worried the 3Gb will hit its limits before the 970 speed limits it, Guess just looking which will max out first. That said This is for the GF's rig and once I upgrade my 980 to hopefully a 980Ti she'll get my 980.

Stop with this already. The 970 has 4GB of VRAM. This silliness is long since over.

@Not_Sean, I would not purchase a 3GB graphics card if you expect it to last you more than a couple years. If you plan on upgrading again in 2018, then sure, a 3GB 1060 works, but if you're wanting this to be your GPU until 2019, 2020 or beyond, shell out the extra cash for a 6GB 1060 or a 4GB/8GB 480/580. It's worth it in the long run, as 3GB of VRAM won't hold up long in AAA titles at 1080p.

I enjoy buying junk and sinking more money than it's worth into it to make it less junk.
