I built a computer with a 1700x and a H100iv2 and the cooler was way overkill. At stock speeds it was 56 degrees under load.

already own the 1700x and air coolers don't have compatibility for am4 brackets really yet else I would but wouldn't a aio be better than most high-end air coolers?

Which is better? 120mm aio vs top air cooler(NH-D15, Darkrock pro)(2 fans)

It's a rhetorical question for those who answer to this question.

Not really, noctua had theirs out immediately and cryorig was hot on their heels.

Air by a huge margin.  280/360mm aio's and really good 240s compete with high end air coolers

Want to custom loop?  Ask me more if you are curious

you cant compare 120mm aio vs top air cooler, 120mm is not on top of aio

its like comparing AMD R7 1700 with Intel G4560

It will work just fine, though not ideal. 120mm rads are kinda a weird spot for cooling. Many air coolers have more surface area, being thicker with the same dimensions.

If you have any other coolers, check their websites. Many cooler manufacturers are selling adapters or brackets that are AM4 compatible with current coolers. So try to find a good cooler you like and then check for the adapter. I think Corsair is practically giving away theirs, just cost of shipping if you can prove you already bought or have a cooler.

Sadly few places (newegg & Amazon) are showing this. You have to click on the cooler & check the title or even into the specs to see if an AM4 bracket is available. :(
