first ever build

Hi guys,
I would like to have some advise from you, I am planning to build my very first PC, I am actually based in UAE so I am not able to get the prices that is available in this site.
This build is mainly for photo and video editing, mainly photoshop and lightroom for photo editing and for video editing are corel, nero, gopro and maybe adobe premiere. And some other multi-tasking such as browsing, watching movies and such. And if I may ask again, should I go for a High-end video card or a 2gb video card should be enough?

tanks in advance!

Hey,

Welcome to Linus tech tips

I'm not an expert in this so I think there are other people way better than me but.

For all the things you summarised but Adobe premiere I would recommend noting too high end but with premiere that's a whole new price category.

Good luck with the build.

Greetz

if your going for video editing and whatnot. i would recommend an I7 of any sorts 4c/8t would benefit you more than say an i5, giving you faster render speeds. The video card however, i would suggest something in the 4gb-8gb range primarily because video editing/rendering is very resource demanding.

My Rig: | CPU: Core i7-8086k @ 4.9 GHz | Motherboard: Asus Rog Strix z370 | CPU Cooler: (some coolermaster one that probably should have been retired several years ago) | Case: Corsair 570x | GPU: EVGA GTX 1080 | RAM: 32GB Corsair Vengeance RGB Pro

I'm not actually planning for that, just a regular photo and video editing build would be just fine. I am not into gaming really.

@kartZzz if you get a motherboard that supports overclocking then yes, 7700k. if not, 7700 is still solid as well as skylake processors.

I understand that, thus why the processor is perfect for you, it will handle every content creation software you use, adobe premiere, sony vegas, photoshop and perform as good as it can since it is single core depended applications, not to mention it will last you considerably longer, 5~7 years of usefulness at least.

But do clarify me, do you own a board already?

Then you have a lot more to win by getting it instead, if you dislike to overclock get the cheapest compatible board and an i7 8700, you'll be pleased.

yeah ur right, actually I am just gathering infos right now and planning to build it by the end of this year. I am hoping to be able to build a pc w/c could last me more than 5 years. looking at ur personal rigs, how long usually an i7 5th gen lasts?

im sure they're still viable. i've repurposed my old ivy bridge I7 for a server load and it's still a champ.

The i7 2600k is still faily capable, I understand you're not into gaming but to have an idea of relative performance between an old i7 with a newer i7 it should help you out:

It is worth noting that however on this new gen the maisntream i7's will move from 4c/8t to 6c/12t and this is one of the most meaningful changes and improvements Intel has done towards their performance in quite a while, so it is a great time to buy a Processor this end of the year relatively to the performance you get for your applications.

how about for the GPU? w/c one should you recommend?

I am planning to run it with single stick 16GB RAM so there will be rooms for upgrade in the future.

Great idea on the ram! always get the biggest size single stick you can, single vs dual channel makes near to no difference, especially when you're not using an iGPU.

GPU wise it will really depend, Volta might be around the corner, depends on your need for CUDA Acceleration and VRAM necessities, TITAN X Volta will be a very powerful workstation card, honestly my brother and I got the TITAN X Maxwell over the Quadro M5000 and it was fine drivers never gave us an issue while offered similar enough performance.

It really depends how much you wish to spend though, a GTX 2080 will be much cheaper and will do fine enough it just isn't optimized for these loads as it's focused on gaming.
