Quite simply I have a couple of older games which don't play nicely with win 10, but do with XP, so I wanna install XP onto an old PC to play them. This PC will not be used for internet browsing etc. because I don't want to become riddled malware etc. I will be running other things off it too, maybe, I will need to wait and see. Can I get XP for free anywhere as I am guessing microsoft isn't selling it anymore so might be giving it away for free cause they wanna be nice for once.

You could probably get a key off a machine if you ask your local tip if you ask politely (Unlikely they'd have remembered seeing any, but you never know!). For an actual like copy have a look on maybe Ebay, at maximum they'll probably be a pound.

I've got a bunch of ISOs for XP Pro PS3 but you'd still need a key to activate Windows

As far as I tested, the latest VirtualBox emulates a GeForce 6800 if you enable 3D Acceleration and install the Guest Additions package. This is plenty for most XP based games.

I'm not sure what the requirements to get that are though, but I imagine as long as you have something remotely beefy, it should be good.

aye but I have too many old PCs with no uses so I may as well get a dedicated system which is actually running XP rather than a virtualbox (I might even shove a 760 in it as well (think it's a 760 I have)

I don't mind. They are not pirated so don't worry. But you'd need to activate it. I have no keys. :/

Just get an XP ISO off a legitimate websites and then search for keys when installing it on a virtual machine. XP doesn't need much system resources so you don't need a super computer to run it in a virtual machine.

As it's a virtual machine, I find it alright to look for keys online. If you were to ever use an operating system for your main PC, buy the license. I don't care how much it costs, it helps whoever made it.

CPU: Intel Core i7 8700

GPU: Gigabyte GeForce GTX 1070

MOBO: ASUS Z370-F STRIX

RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance DDR4 2133MHz

you know any legitimate websites as I have seen several I have never heard of and don't know which ones are legitimate. And it's less a VM it's an old PC I have lying around which I am giving a use to. Eventually

I always Arrrrr-ed my windows XP *cough* in the past. It Always worked just fine for me, without me having any kind of issues. The way I used them, had even alot fewer issues then people who would have had legal versions. But that either due to them russians protecting their investments or idiots behind keyboards.

With the arrr-ed versions I always found a usefull serial and/or crack. I asume *cough* that this is also true for moar modern OS-es.

Since you are going to use it without an internet connection anyways, it should be save enough for even the biggest idiot to get an Arrr-ed copy of Windows XP. (and how much would Microsoft care anyways anymoar... Or even back when it was new)

But a huge disclaimer. Just talking about what I've done *cough* in the past. It's highly illegal, and you will be shot, killed and shot again by Microsoft and which ever agency fancies you.

*PS: I'd rather be in some bot network or be a hidden miner, then giving anything usefull trough the Microsoft spyware stuff.
