1440p gaming bottleneck

Currently sporting a pretty shit build:

AMD FX-8350 (8 @ 4.0GHz)

R9 290x

16GB Ram

- I have two 1440p monitors, at low/medium settings in most FPS games I'm pulling 40-60fps, but with lows of 30...1080p (which looks awful) runs ~30% better

 

I'm looking at upgrading to an Core i5 8600K on covfefe Lakes release, with intentions to keep my 290x in it for a while, but now I'm thinking that it might be the problem as Afterburner suggests PUBG is running at 100% GPU, 60% & CPU

 

Thoughts? GPU Suggestion? Pre-Owned is fine.

Have you checked individual CPU cores though? As a whole the CPU might not be completely used but some cores might be heavily utilized.

I'm not really sure what the point is then? What you're actually looking for here? CPU will work but an upgrade would be beneficial. GPU upgrade will definitely help more at 1440p.
