My Gaming pc

So im building a gaming pc and want some opinions.

 

Im getting a 970 and possibly a i5 4590 with it. 

Is this any good for a pc with used parts? 

Say that its shit please give me tips or suggestions

What games do you want to play, at what res? and what's your total budget (minus whatever you already have)?

That PC is great even for most of today's most hardware demanding games, even 1440p for most games, to compare those to today components, it's basically a GTX 1060 3GB and a RYZEN 5 1600. If you can find the other components for cheap, you've got a killer PC

Nope. Only a 4c/4t CPU, not even close to the 6c/12t R5 1600. The 970 is good though.

No, more like a 1060 3gb and a 7400 or R3 1200/1300. 

 

But it is pretty damn good for 1080p, but at 1440p I'd say it wouldn't be very good at quality settings.

If the OP can stretch to a 980 and lower end i7, the extra GPU power and threads should help a lot.

I was quoting him (should've quoted the whole sentence), he said the i5 the OP is getting is as good as an R5 1600.

I think what you meant is that its a decent pc. Far from being awesome for 1080p AAA games, and it surely won't run games in 1440p ( new AAA titles at least ) but its decent for most games, and will surely run them all at medium-high settings in 1080p and ultra for somes.

 

So definitely a good PC, but nothing close to a ryzen 5 1600 and by the way a gtx 1060 = gtx 980

Yeah, isn't the 980 (especially when overclocked) between the 1060 and 1070? I know the 980 Ti is between the 1070 and 1080 when OC'ed.

The 1060 even do better than a 980 sometimes.. its mostly equal tho

980 ti overclocked is a 1070.

 

980 ti has sliiiight overclock advantage, almost nothing, sliiiight overclock advantage. its never close to a 1080 its a 1070

From what I read, it's a bit above a 1070 when both are OC'ed. Not a 1080, but better than a 1070. Thus why I said in between. I do know it's a beast of a card, even if it is relegated to running my 2003-2005 Star Wars games... gonna get the new Battlefront II when it comes out though.

if you overclock both, its almost equal, the 980 ti has a sliiiigh advatange but nothin close to a 1080 its like 5% better than a 1070 oc'd

Seems like they're pretty well matched. Especially impressive considering all the specs are slower on a 980 Ti (though MOAR CUDA!!!)

It's better if you actually OC it to that point it becomes better, which that requires good silicon lotery and good oc skills and lot of patience. most of the time 1070 wins also it has more vram etc... no reason to get a 980 ti instead of a 1070 unless you have a good price $$$

More CUDA for rendering. Plus, I get to say I have a 980 Ti, not a normal peasant 1070 (I was gonna get an EVGA one, but the guy bailed on me so I got an MSI Gaming 980 Ti 6G).

with ur peasant 1070, you can at least max settings in rise of the tomb raider, which takes up to 7.5 GB vram

 

With ur 980 ti u only have 6 gb vram.

 

So the 1-5% best performance which results in 3 fps most of the time, is not worth it. just sayin   unless you have a great price for it

Yeah. I'm kind of teasing. Though as it says in my sig, Maxwell is still awesome (I have dabbled in Pascal with my 1050 Ti). Plus, I can let all the early adopters get Vega and Volta and everything, and then snap them up used when something new comes out.

1070 = usually $380-400, right now like $420+

980Tis can be had under $300 for a good one.

And bragging rights. It's an '80 Ti card after all. Plus, it's good for if you wanna heat up some snacks (the 80C backplate while gaming is pretty good for that).
