EVGA FTW are about the best, especially for neutral colours + a great warranty

Best air cooled is the strix, best water cooled probably ftw3 hybrid, best if you're willing to go custom loop probably Asus Poseidon.

I personally would only recommend an sc2 or ftw3 to most people (sc2 for most people and ftw3 if you really can afford it). Any non blower style 1080 ti is going to overclock about the same so going for more expensive 1080 tis don't actually give you much benefit. Yes you may argue they're quieter but something like an sc2 is already pretty quiet so... yeah.

On a side note, why an 1800x and not a 1700x or 1700 if they oc just as well for cheaper?

EDIT: Forgot to mention I'm recommending evga products because they have good customer service.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

I got a great deal on the 1800x bringing it down to about the same price as a 1700.

Honestly though, I am testing both now, and deciding which to keep. Obviously I went for the Strix first as that's more highly touted, but for some reason I feel the FE just works better in my vertical GPU oriented system, as hot air rises and it blows it all out.

Seeing about 5-10 FPS less in general in games, but that's FE stock vs the Strix which is OC. I may OC the FE and that should bring it closer. Noise is fine on both, but the FE does run around 85 degrees vs the 70 on the strix under gaming load. (All that heat goes back into the case though, which I don't particularly like)

I personally have a gigabyte Auros 1080ti.  +75mhz core and +500mhz memory.  So sits at 2050mhz/6000mhz - Runs at stock fan curve, never thermal throttles and is stable as f***.  Brilliant card.

After a long gaming session temps are at a max of 76, normally averaging around 65-70.

Depends what you want to to do.  If you are going LN2 then I probably would recommend something else.

CPU: Intel Core i7-7700k @ 4.8ghz | Motherboard: GIGABYTE Gaming Z270XP-SLI | Graphics Card: AORUS GeForce® GTX 1080 Ti | RAM: 16GB Corsair Vengeance 3200mz |Storage: 1 x Samsung 250GB 960 Evo PCIe NVMe | 2 x Seagate 1TB [raid1] - overflow stuff | 2 x Samsung 850 EVO 500gb [raid0] - games | PSU: Corsair CX750M | Case: Corsair 400C | Cooling: Kraken x62 AIO | 3 x Corsair AF140 | 1x Noctua  NF-F12 | SoundSoundblaster Zx through  KRK Rokit G5 monitors

To be updated... when I get time

I spent several hours this week looking at various AIB 1080ti's before I ended up with an Aorus extreme.

What does 'the best' mean to you?

All of the vendors have their own RBG lighting gimmicks that try to attract you to them, most are going to back their cards with 2-3 year warranties. Performance wise they all are within 2-3% of each other.

You mentioned neutral colored so I would recommend the Asus and EVGA cards as they tend to avoid 'flash' accent colors. Inno3D also does an 'all black' card.

Gamernexus has a couple of teardown and PCB reviews of various 1080ti cards so that might be worth checking out.

Me personally, I went for the Aorus extreme because of the 4 year warranty, I have a gigabyte board so it integrates well with my build and most importantly, it runs virtually silent even at full load while keeping temps around 70C. No other AIB air cooled card comes close.

It's downside is that it's got a massive 2.5 slot cooler to accomplish that.

and here's a roundup from hardware.info too;
