Can you game on a server board

Hey my dad gave me his old workstation and I was gonna turn it into a gaming system, but I'm also trying to save money and was wondering if I need a new motherboard or will the server board work  just fine for gaming. Thanks

You can game on a server board but server cpu's usually have bad single core performance which you need for most games.

Depends on what board you have. Does the board have PCI-E slots? But usually you can, but you're not going to get the best performance.

You can, but whether it's good depends on the cpu model. Usually its only acceptable.

Is this the same workstation you mentioned last Friday with a Xeon E5 1630 v3 and Lenovo P500 mobo? If yes, you'll be fine.

 

The motherboard does nothing for performance, if it has the I/O you need you're good.

its not recommended. a couple months ago i was playing csgo with randos and one claimed to be running a xeon and he claimed to be getting ass frames. so i would personally save up for a real computer.

Looking at the specs of the 1630-V3, it just makes sense that it would be pretty nippy. 3.7ghz base with a hyperthreaded quad-core is never a bad thing, especially since those specs are awfully similar to the i7-4790.
