Constant Chrome Tab Opening (Possible Adware/Malware)

Necromonger

See attached photo. It is constantly opening every couple of minutes on my Chrome Browser, going as far as opening Chrome when I have it closed. It appears to be an ad for some kind of software called Click To Dictate.

IDK if its an extension/plug-in/app in Chrome doing this, but it is getting annoying now. I also don't know if this is attributing to my constant game minimizes that is going on too(Games exiting out of fullscreen for no apparent reason). Both of these problems began recently too.

Any ideas? Thanks!

I mean, if the game minimizes and you have a new tab that opened it's probably related. Try running some malwaye application and ccleaner tonsee if that helps at all, otherwise you could always uninstall and reinstall chrome.

check your extentions

and then check your installed programs in ccleaner or just in control panel

im sure theres something there that was recently installed that you dont recognize

whatever you dont recognize - google it - its probably the adware you should remove

this doesnt sound too serious. ive seen then on someone elses pc and was just annoying and not harmful (hopefully)

i mentioned ccleaner

Not really sure why that is relevant???

The link I posted wasn't to ccleaner. ccleaner is made my piriform, and deals with cleaning surplus files and registry entries.

The software I linked is uninstall view, made by nirsoft, a utility dedicated to removing surplus software packages that don't always show up in windows add remove programs or control panel --> programs and features.

I have used it multiple times to remove this sort of nuisance-ware that intentionally requests to not show up in add remove programs.

unknownmiscreant - CCleaner also has a powerful uninstaller, services control panel, etc.  So, it's quite relevant.

As others have said, check your Chrome extensions and look for anything you didn't install. Google names of the extensions if you're not sure. Odds are, someone out there will be talking about it.

If this is malware, CCleaner isn't a huge help. It has a decent Uninstall utility and startup entry manager, but that's about it.

You can try running Malwarebytes Anti-Malware just to be sure. It may find more. Also take some time to look at your services in MSCONFIG. Be sure to click the checkbox for "Hide all Microsoft Services" so you see only third party ones. Google ones you don't know and uncheck any that seem unnecessary.

Good luck!

Just looking at the picture you uploaded, I see you also have the text-to-speech Chrome addon (Little Circle with Triangle in the middle) - I just removed mine because I think it might be what's opening the Click-to-dictate
