Virus infections

Guys I have a quick question. I am wondering; is it possible for a virus/malware to infect from one pc which is being used, to another pc which is turned off, however is connected by cable to the same router?

there are worms that are designed to infect the router itself, thus infecting every device on the network.

so technically yes.

but realistically no

Maybe the router could wake up the PC with a magic packet and then infect it, but while the PC is off the entire time, no.

Yes and no. If the computer has Wake-On-LAN enabled (most computers don't by default), the malware can turn on the remote computer and then attempt to run an exploit on it.
