True story: I was gifted an I5-3470 that we casually had laying around in the department (the hall refuses to buy legacy hardware, so no H61 mobos in sight), while looking at it, i dropped it straight onto the floor. No visual damage, and by the time i had already ordered a cheapo Gigabyte Z77 from Aliexpress to use it on, but i had no motherboard on sight to test the CPU. Fast forward 2 months, the mobo arrives, i put the CPU on the slot, turn the whole deal on, and it still works flawlessly!

Aren't CPU's just not fragile at all for the most part?

Intel, not hugely, however on amd the pins can be bent by a fall.

I was showing my friend the old Core 2 Duo CPU that used to go in my PC, and once I hand it to him, he drops it on the floor with a loud thud. That thing is heavy for its size, and to this day, I haven't tested it to see if it still works.

Yeah, I dropped my i5 4690k. No damage done.

I've also pulled a CPU out of a PGA socket with the heatsink attached to it.
