Hi all I have recently experienced low CPU and GPU usage around 30% for both despite having low frame rates in minecraft (Minecraft is the only game I am able to play because of my pitiful pc specs of a GT730 and an i3 3220) I am unsure why this is and I would appreciate any help in fixing it.

Thank you in advance for any and all help

Minecraft is poorly optimized and is heavily CPU dependent, which will result in you only seeing 20-30% usage in CPU or GPU usage at a given time. Even on the most high-end computers, Optifine is almost a necessity. If you don't have it already, you can pick it up from http://optifine.net/downloads.

I have optifine and it is not an 30% CPU or 30% GPU usage at any given time, it is 30% GPU AND CPU usage at ALL times, additionally this is only a recent issue and up until recently I was not experiencing this issue.

thanks for your help anyway and if you are able to give me any further help then that would be greatly appreciated

I have found that the only time Minecraft will use more than 50% CPU/GPU usage is during startup. Afterward, it is normal to see 30% usage all the time. Have you tried using older Minecraft versions such as 1.8, 1.9, or 1.10? Are you already using low settings while in the game? Are you taking advantage of all of Optifine's available optimizations?

I am getting frame rates of ~30fps with ~30% gpu and cpu usage despite being set on the "unlimited" frame rate setting and this is both a new problem and is unaffected by the graphical settings

I'm not entirely sure if I am able to help you. The CPU/GPU usage that your computer is reporting while playing Minecraft is normal, though your performance while in the game is not. A number of frames that you see in the game usually will not affect these usage reports.

Right now all I can think of is the fact that these performance results are usually those of the integrated graphics processor of your CPU. Normally you would not be able to use your integrated card while your graphics card is active, though I just want to ensure that your display cords are plugged into the graphics card instead of your motherboard.
