I've been looking around a few different sites trying to get the most bang for my buck, Linus recommends SP2500's, but lots of members here don't (they seem too consumer friendly to me). People talk lots about passive and active speakers, studio monitor speakers and bookshelf speakers, sound card versus no sound card in a speaker setup, whether the speakers already have an amp or not. It's all too bothersome for me. :P

What i want is a 2.1 setup, i want to be able to really feel the bass when I'm listening to EDM or dubstep etc. I have a nice pair of headphones (Koss TBSE1) aswell. This is what i think i should be buying.

Studio monitors + sub + amp + sound card (just to improve my headphone experience; but not needed for speaker setup right? It will only act as a DAC if i have an external amp?)

I'm not too certain on anything, what does the forum recommend?

Budget: $600-$700~ AUD

Cheers!

EDIT: Oo00oohh, newer version of amp apparently: 2013

Studio monitors have a built in amp, and you don't want to use a sub with them because they're designed to not need one. There are active bookshelf speakers, and they typically don't hit the low notes as hard so adding a sub is great for them.

If you don't want to use onboard audio, grab a DAC, not a soundcard. Behringer's UCA 202 and FiiO's D3 are around 30-40 bucks in 'Murica.

I know I haven't given specific speaker recommendations, but I don't delve into them much, and I'm a believer that all good speakers sound the same.

I'd probably just get Audioengine 5+'s and be done with it, spend the rest on a DAC or soundcard.

A5+'s and a Polk sub to top of the budget.

I reckon the 5+'s would have more than enough bass, I'd spend the rest on something other than a sub. Low budget subs don't tend to add any kind of fidelity.

I think that if your going for good speakers at that price range, that all you need to do to get them up and running is plug them in, then go for these: http://www.krksys.com/krk-studio-monitor-speakers/rokit/rokit-5.html I use them they have awesome quality (you can also buy a good sub-woofer of the same design from these guys) and you can find them pretty cheap in Australia (I'm in AUS, Sydney).

Dem be well-regarded studio monitors if I'm not mistaken.
