if you can get him to run memtest86, that's the best way.

memtest86 takes hours, or sometimes days to show a successful few runs, but even 10 mins should reveal any immediate glaring issues.

Is there anyother way for him to show me that the ram is functioning? Maybe from the System Bios?

if it posts, then the RAM is functioning to some degree, although I would try at least a few minutes of memtest 86 just to make sure that it doesn't crash under load.

 

RAM rarely ever dies though, so you should be fine.
