Hello all,

So I just got a new PC, when I try to plug my earbuds into the headphone jack, the mic is not being recognized as a recording device. However, on my old laptop the mic worked just fine. What's the issue here?

Does your PC have separate mic/audio output?

Your laptop probably had a single 3.5mm combo port which means that any headphones/headset/earphones with a single 4-pole 3.5mm jack (and microphone), you'd be able to use the mic on the laptop. However, your desktop probably has dual 3.5mm jacks (if not more if the mobo supports 7.1 surround sound) meaning that you'd need an adapter which goes from single 4-pole to dual 3-pole 3.5mm jacks so you'd be able to use the microphone as one port is for the mic and one port is for sound.
