RAM brand/type/amount

Hello all,

First post on here!

Anyway, right to it: I am building a computer and so far I have an AMD FX 8350 for my CPU and no graphics card yet (still saving for that), along with a few other parts. ANYWAY, my question for this forum is this: How much of a difference does memory make? My main purpose for the computer is versatility; sometimes I like to game, I like to write code, have many windows/tabs open, stream content, etc. I want to make my computer as fast as I can, but I'm also trying to save money/pay rent. What is the best RAM dollar per performance? 

(Note: Since RYZEN has been released, I don't know if it is worth my while to upgrade so that I may be DDR4 (and other features) compatible. Please let me know if this matters at all or not.)

Depends on what you can find in the used market..... Just get 1600MHz DDR3. They are cheap and FX itself doesnt seem to benefit much from high speed RAM to justify the price.

Have you already bought the 8350? If not switch to ryzen.

Unless you are running ryzen like I am, memory speed makes very little difference. Especially ddr3. Just get 1600mhz

Yes @sazrocks, I have had the FX 8350 since Black Friday. However, if Ryzen really is that much better, than I'm am not adverse to upgrading--although I know it would take another couple months of saving.
And @Strike105X, are you saying that it's not worth my time to upgrade CPUs and, by extension, RAM (to DDR4)?

It looks like I'll just be saving for Ryzen x370 motherboard being that it's only $130 on Amazon. As for the processor, if I'm getting the new am4 socket with the mobo,  my hands are kinda tied and I'll have to get AMD Ryzen 5 1600X which is 6 rather than 8 cores, but I'll get over it as the performance more than makes up for it.
