My computer was built about a week ago and the temp jumps a little. I overclocked to 5ghz and now it's jumping around like crazy. I had some help building it and the guy picked up the water cooler after originally placing it on the CPU and switched it so the nzxt logo was upright. Do I need to take it off and apply new thermal paste?

So when it jumps is it actually that hot or does it think it is but it's actually not that hot?

its actually that hot

it happens when you open applications like chrome for example

the cpu ramps up to full for just some time so temp jumps

its a think with kabylake. but intel also says kabylake has upgraded sensors so its more noticeable than skylake

is it something I should worry about then?

I saw 70 celsius I think for a second when it jumped up. Don't think it went higher than low 60s when it wasn't overclocked.

Not an issue, I am currently sitting at 25*c idle, when loaded (for say 5seconds) I'll also have 60+ *c temps.

If I load up for 30seconds I'll be jumping between 60-70*c.

When I'm encoding video (20-30mins+), I top out at 78-80*c

I've not seen it go over 80*c yet, and I'm using a 4790K @ 4.7Ghz with a single 120mm Rad/SingleFan

Seems pretty normal to me what your getting.

When you see 80*c, and your not overclocked, or above 80*c, OC or not, THEN re-evaluate your cooling.

Maximums - Asus Z97-K /w i5 4690 Bclk @106.9Mhz * x39 = 4.17Ghz, 8GB of 2600Mhz DDR3,.. Gigabyte GTX970 G1-Gaming @ 1550Mhz

I reset my CMOS and everything went back to semi normal. From what I saw overclocking it wasnt worth the addes heat and stress on the CPU. Thanks!
