I'm building a workstation pc with some occasional gaming and i'm wondering if i should get the 1700 for 300, 1700x for 340, or the 1800x for 400$. i have no knowledge of overclocking and not planning to do it. Can you guys tell me the performance difference between the base models of those 3 cpus. Also the performance in games as i will be doing some of that as well.

But hes not planning on doing it, so getting a higher clocked CPU makes more sense. I agree, I think the XFR tech is totally worthless, but if he doesn't overclock might be worth it ito him.

I would rather agree on what we share, than fight on what we don't. - Myself

I'm on the same boat as OP so should I just get the 1700x if I'm not planning to overclock. so is the performance between the 1700 and the 1700x base clock speeds miniscule or big in games and photo rendering?

The speed does make a difference. I have the 1700x (Overclocked to 3.9) and 400mhz is going to show up. However you both need to remember that Ryzen LOVES Ram speed so overclocking the ram is must even more so then the CPU.
