Here is my system https://pcpartpicker.com/user/FuzzLobster/saved/ZPG48d

I was wondering if my 650w EVGA psu would be enough if i were to add a gtx 970 to it (keeping the r9 390). I also have a bunch of usb devices (if that matters).

Also if it did add the 2nd GPU and it overloaded the psu what would happen?

I would step it up to a 750 watt unit to be safe. With 650 watts you're getting close to the limit of the PSU if you add in a GTX 970, even more so if you overclock at all. Hitting the limits of a PSU would probably result in shutdown of the system.

if i just added in the 970 and it didnt work what would happen. I mean i could always buy another 400w psu, but if i can use the one i have that would save some money.

Mining with single GPU ?

He's adding the GTX 970 to help with that.

Getting onto that topic, I've heard it's not worth it to run Radeon and GeForce in tandem, being impossible on anything other than Linux, and being really hard to pull off on that. There's a lot of driver work and software you have to set up properly.

I'd say just get another R9 390 and a 750W PSU.

650 should be fine. If you overloaded the psu it would just shut off.

My guess is with EVGA the psu wont kill the system if it overloads. I just want to make sure before i try it its not going to explode or take components with it if it fails.

Any psu that isn't a literal bomb should have over voltage and over current protection. Since this psu isn't an allahu akbar psu, it will have those protections.
