What is wrong with Uplay? I've heard many complaints about it yet I don't encounter any issues with it that make Steam any better of a platform.

I have the same question for Origin.

I've been a PC Gamer since mid 2015 if that says anything.

People just don't like Ubisoft, they have somewhat anticonsumer practices.

People are a little upset at EA and Ubisoft that they don't sell their games on Steam because they don't want to pay Steam's fees. So now they have to install multiple launchers.

I have been wondering the same thing. I bought Assassin's Creed 3 on a disc 5 years ago and had to install uplay on my pc. I have never had issues with uplay or ubisoft except for R6S, where it doesn't join my friends unless we use hamachi. I think it's just "trendy" to hate on Uplay. And the fact that it isn't steam.

Origin in the other hand is a different story. I pre-ordered myself a BF4 Deluxe edition for 70 euros, and when the game was released, I was charged, but I never got the game. I contacted customer service and they tried to gift the game for free. If I go check my account transactions, it shows that they have tried to give me the game. And it still didn't show up in my game library. I had to buy the digital deluxe edition for ANOTHER 70 euros to get the game. And in the end, it didn't even work. If I tried to connect to a server, it said "PnkBstrB.exe initialization failed.". I had to get a whole new computer to get it working, which took 2 years.
