Need help for new audio solution

Hello everyone,

 

First off, thanks for reading.

 

Recently my old DJ speakers have died, cause unknown. So I started looking into a new set of speakers.

 

The ones I am looking into these two options:

Cerwin Vega XD4 (2.0)

Thonet & Vander Rätsel (2.1)

 

I mostly listen to progressive rock music but from reading up on the internet the Vega's seem better. The price diffrence is not my concern since it's not that much.

 

The thing I am struggling with is the connection. Both use a 3.5mm headphone jack and I plan to connect them to my external hdmi monitor's 3.5mm jack or the one built into my Asus laptop. However I wonder if it would be better to get a Dac or a Usb to 3.5mm jack converter since those are cheaper. The Vega's have an AMP built in, I'm not sure about the Rätsel's.

 

Any help or suggestions for better speakers for rock music, amps, dacs etc. is more than welcome!
