Help with unique upgrade

hello all, 

 

I managed to acquire a dell vostro 270s for free (specs: http://www.dell.com/support/home/us/en/19/product-support/servicetag/4rnznv1/configuration) and was wondering if I could upgrade it to a better gpu, ssd and probably more ram (it has a 4gb and a 2gb stick atm). I know i would have to upgrade the psu and switch it to a different case, I want to mostly run overwatch and probably more demanding titles in the future at 1080p 60fps (maybe 144 in the future?)

 

are good/okay upgrades available? im mostly thinking of the gpu.

I'd go with a 1050 Ti, an extra 4GB of RAM, Corsair CX450M (or 2017 CX PSU, or SeaSonic S12II/M12II), and a Crucial MX300 SSD.

Shouldn't. You can always use sticky back velcro to hold the SSD if there aren't any mounts. Is your mobo standard ATX/mATX though? If it's a proprietary one like newer Dell towers, you'll need a new one or adapters for your PSU.

I would actually go for a EVGA B3 450W over the CX450M. Full modular for same price.

a new what? also, will the pcie slots have enough power for a 1050 ti, or even a 1060?

A 1050 Ti, yes. I think 1060s need a separate power connector as well. And I meant a new mobo, though getting adapters would be much cheaper. It only matters if you don't have the standard plugs on the mobo (newer towers have proprietary mobos, and are not much better than a laptop in a box).

could you link me some appropriate adapters and how would i be able to tell if the mobo is proprietary or not?

Here's the manual: http://downloads.dell.com/manuals/all-products/esuprt_desktop/esuprt_vostro_desktop/vostro-270s_owner's manual_en-us.pdf. It's actually insanely helpful, and shows you how to take it apart and put it back together. The mobo has normal connectors (so it should be fine), but you'll need a new case. The PSU is proprietary, and no ATX PSU will fit in that case. Tricky thing is, the mobo is between mATX and ATX, kind of like a wide-micro-ATX. Try and get a mid tower case, and you should be able to mount it in there somehow.
