Having problems booting Linux (Ubuntu Lubuntu and Mint)

I've tried installing Linux onto my Toshiba Satellite C55-B5100. I used current Ubuntu Lubuntu and Mint distros and each one gave me the same message

It boots off the live USB drive just fine but it doesn't want to boot. I've messed with the boot order already and my HDD is at the top.

Have you turned off secure boot in the BIOS?

That was the first thing I did before installing.

So, let me get this straight. You ahve in fact installed linux, you just can't get boot from it?

Yes. Linux mint is installed it just wont boot up. My computer boots live USBs just fine.

OK, i'll try and help... I am fairly new at this though, so forgive me if I go wrong, but I'll try to not screw up anything you have already done.

 

load in the live usb, any will do, and then go into the terminal and

sudo add-apt-repository ppa:danielrichter2007/grub-customizer

 

that adds the repo so that you can get the app.

 

sudo apt-get update

sudo apt-get install grub-customizer

 

installs the program. Then run the program. It should check for stuff already there... sorry trying to do this from notes and memory.

In which way didn't it work? not work at all, as in program didn't install? or what?  - Please try and remember that I am trying to help you here, so if you can be a bit more descriptive it may save a bit of back and forth to find out what you meant?

If you can't get the program to work, I would suggest maybe installing again, making sure to wipe the entire hard drive in the advanced installation manually, before continuing install... I think what might have happened is that it didn't wipe the EFI partition and so that's why it's not finding the HDD on boot.
