AMD vs Intel gaming/rendering build.

Go to solution Solved by Guest,

R5 1400 would be better

Good Evening/day everyone

as the title suggests, im wondering which is better at this current moment?

here are the two builds within my budget of 10 000ZAR

AMD Ryzen 5 1400 4 Core Socket AM4 3.2GHz CPU Processor + Wraith Stealth Cooler - 229
ASUS PRIME X370-PRO AM4 - 229
MSI GeForce GTX 1050 Ti Gaming X 4GB Video Card - 249

707

fractal design edison m550W 80+ gold -109
G.Skill Value 8GB (1x 8GB) DDR4 2400MHz Memory -92
WD WD10EZEX 1TB Blue 3.5” 7200RPM  - 75
276

983

OR

intel i5 7400 3.0 ghz- 249
ASUS PRIME Z270-AR - 229
MSI GTX 1050 Ti 4GB - 249
737

fractal design edison m550W 80+ gold -109
G.Skill Value 8GB (1x 8GB) DDR4 2400MHz Memory -92
WD WD10EZEX 1TB Blue 3.5” 7200RPM  - 75
276

1013

please note

Although im from south africa, all prices are in AU$ because im ordering parts from there.

this rig wil be for mid gaming (GTA V and NFS)

im an Architectural student so rendering capabilities dont need to be of industry standard

the reason i have chosen these motherboards with non-unlocked processors is because i will be upgrading in future, and id rather have the motherboard be a "foundation for future builds as opposed to having "just enough for now"

ive never built a pc before so please forgive any noob mostakes so far , everything ive come with is my own research.

any and all opinions will be considered. thank you.

I would get the Ryzen system. Assuming you do want to upgrade later down the line AMD has better options.

Also, it has double the threads of an i5, so it'll be much better for editing and rendering.

Ryzen is much better, but try to spend a bit more to get a 1600. It's definitely worth it for rendering ;)

as other said Ryzen is better for your need. Plus, the performance in gaming when you pair them with 1050ti is probly negligible. I do recommend down grade to a B350 motherborad cause it can overclock CPU as well. the advantage in SLI and corssfire is not applicable to your situation imo, (1050ti not capable of SLI). Also, you can use this extra money to buy a higher freq RAM. Ryzen benefit from fast RAM. go for ddr4-3000.

The 1500X is just a 1400 with more cache. Not worth it, because for only $20-30 more you can get the 1600 which has 2 more cores and 4 more threads :D

CPU: Intel Core i7-5820K | Motherboard: AsRock X99 Extreme4 | Graphics Card: Gigabyte GTX 1080 G1 Gaming | RAM: 16GB G.Skill Ripjaws4 2133MHz | Storage: 1 x Samsung 860 EVO 1TB | 1 x WD Green 2TB | 1 x WD Blue 500GB | PSU: Corsair RM750x | Case: Phanteks Enthoo Pro (White) | Cooling: Arctic Freezer i32

future upgrades is one of my main concerns. which is why i went with the better mobo and skimped on the cpu. coz i know ill be upgrading to the flagship for this socket  next. whats your opinion on the future of AMD's gpu line? thank you for your response friend!

what about gpu upgrades in future though? ive seen news of amd coming with some new stuff but is there anything that rivals intel in the higher tiers like say the gtx 1070? as you can see ive mentioned the games i do play which dont require a top of the line gtx 1080ti for example. but it would be nice to stay on par (or beat) the performance of ps4/pros etc. and as i gain more experience in my field to do more detailed renderings.

ill be upgrading to better graphics and cpu in time, which is why ive chosen this board. what is your opinion on the graphics that AMD has brought (or bringing)?... im not lookinig for flagship gpus like the 1080ti because as you can see from the games ive mentioned, they wont be necesary, but for my profession (and for beating the ps4 pro lol) id like to go for the gtx 1070. unless amd has something that can match that performance at a lower price. thank you for your advice!
