Intel® RAID SAS Expander RES2SV240 Support

Is it possible to use an Intel® RAID SAS Expander RES2SV240 with X299 to add support for an additional 24 SATA devices utilising RST, or at least present the disks to the OS directly?

 

If not is there a PCI-E 3.0 4x 16 port SATA HBA available (can only find 8x/16x PCI-E 2.0)?

Even with the SAS expander... you'll still need an HBA or other controller to use with it. 

Can Anybody Link A Virtual Machine while I go download some RAM?

That's a shame. Are expanders possible for RST at all? Know you can use M.2 expanders for RSTe, but am looking at SATA (or SAS to SATA) expanders.
