What Laptop is good for $1000?

I am in need of a new laptop as my old laptop i am using now is starting to degrade in performance and I looking for a new laptop that is good for gaming and also be a good choice for college. The current laptop I am thinking on is the Dell Inspiron 15 5000 (Gaming).

well when i say a gaming laptop for college i mean like a laptop that would be good to play video games and being portable enough to carry in a bag

just get a refurbished dell 7567 with an i7 7700hq, 1050ti, 128 ssd, 1tb hdd and ips display. I got that exact one for 804usd after taxes (750 without taxes).

DELL XPS 15 a good option and used Lenovo Thinkpad's

Inspiron 5000 Gaming (5577) is stuck with the default/original poor TN display from the 7000 / 7567 model, with no option to upgrade on any of the models. This is certainly very poor for a laptop costing $1000, I would say, and would avoid it. It looks like the left side of this photo: 

 

I would go for an Inspiron 7567 IPS model, at this rate. Not all 7567 models have IPS so you have to watch out, but these ones do:

- Look through the Dell Outlet for ones that specify IPS for the display. Not all do, so be particular about it. There's currently a $949 refurb with the IPS display and 128GB+1TB, and sometimes a $769 one pops up. All with either SSD and/or 7700HQ should be 1050 Ti, Dell never made versions of those with just a 1050 so I think that's a listing error.

- You could by one with the poor TN display and replace it yourself with an even better one, but only if you definitely plan to do that would I recommend that.

I can confirm that the 128gb and 1tb i7 do come with 1050ti and also the i5 with 256 ssd does come with a 1050ti even if listed as a 1050 in the dell outlet
