Hey there everyone,

so for a while now I have been growing my YT channel and quite recently I have seen rapid growth. I have also reached the withdrawal threshold on adsense for a $100 and so I am planning on reinvesting the money into my YT channel. Since I cannot get a DSLR camera which I hope to get in the future, I would like to get a microphone instead. I would like to find a mic that can, if possible, be used for the camera in the future and can be used for voice-overs, and maybe even gaming I guess. So what microphone could do that? Can a microphone be used for all these purposes?

Thanks :D

If you only want one mic for almost every situation that is you talking in different situations, there are two options I know of that can work.

Lav mic a little microphone you put on your shirt that pick up your voice.

Shotgun mic, made to pick up sound at a distance, but not that far. Doesnt require you to have it on you. Can be used as a mic for your PC if you also buy some sort of stand.

You've mentioned voiceovers and gaming, but what kind of YT videos are you looking to use the microphone with? I think I have a solution for you but it depends on what you're doing for YT on whether it's useful or not

I make videos where I show my audience how to install mods, I also make real life vlog type videos, as well as hopefully in the future commentary's.

Blue (bluemic.com) sells a fairly wide range of consumer/prosumer grade microphones. They're USB input, so you can use them for gaming PTT, streaming commentary, audio recording, etc. They also sell a pro version of the Yeti that has XLR outputs if you need to be able to connect directly to a mixing console, etc.

I've had very satisfying results with the Yeti.

If your recording location is relatively quiet and you don't need to speak from across the room for your YT productions, I suggest you give them a look.

Cant really be used in situations where you cant hold the the mic or it standing on something close to your mouth, aka vlogging. and it would have to be in the frame, and it isnt really small.

I saw that he included vlogging but assumed that that would all be done with the typical on-camera mic. Good point about the size. It's not small.

Yes, having different mics for different things would be best, but he asked if there was one mic that can be used for all scenarios.
