990fx rig reboots

This thread is a followup on my previous thread:

Issue: PC POSTS/boots but randomly shuts off again. This issue does not seem to persist when unplugging the GPU power connectors. RAM works, GPU works, CPU works they've all been tested with another system. GPU and PSU have been RMA'd but came back (no problems found). The system does work when using a different less power consuming AM3+ mobo. The PSU seems to be doing just fine with an i7 rig either with my R9 290 or my GTX 1060. The main caveat is probably the powersupply, and not the mobo because it boots just fine without GPU.

 

Question: Would this be a likely scenario, or how would I seek to fix this ? I am basically trying to rule out as many variables as possible.

Been there done that, the problem does not seem software related

Undervolt the CPU (Vcore), and see if shut downs will cease before you will have to lower frequency to keep stability at low voltage.

I've tried all three of them even with different GPU's, the system seems to shutdown without GPU in it aswell.

Tried undervolting in the past didn't make a difference.

 

Update: I'm thinking about selling my PC in parts because this issue seems to be mobo related. I'm no longer willing to invest in an ALMOST-dead platform (Ryzen crushes this :D). Nontheless thanks for all the help, I was just hoping it was not the mobo because I paid good money for that !

I suspect the motherboard might be doing it, but I am not sure why maybe it is because its VRM is damaged by heat over time?

Thank you ! This was the kind of response I was looking for :D. I wanted to know what caused it exactly I knew it was the mobo, I did suspect the chipset but that wouldn't make any sense would it ?

Chipset will make heat to so it is a possibility tough very unlikely. :3
