I've got a guy looking to build a NAS for his small business. I'm curious as to what the best price/performance NAS could be built for him. Used is an option. Thinking about using the Fractal Design Define R5 Blackout Edition so there is plenty of storage, not too big, and some silence. I was not given a budget.

Silent is in it's name so it has to be quiet right? RIGHT?!

Um..... Yea, it has 8 3.5 drive bays, but I don't see silence in it's name.

I was given a similar scenario at work last year and ended up deciding to go with old server gear. The server is mission critical and can't have downtime, so having redundant storage and power supplies made me feel a lot better about the situation. It's a Dell PowerEdge 2950 with 6 1TB Seagate NAS hard drives. If you want more details, just ask. I am aware it isn't power efficient, but it has over a year of up-time and has given zero issues thus far, so I feel like it was a good choice.
