It is enough for most games now, and without any of the fancy high settings it could be enough for future games too, I'm sure even if the user plays those demanding titles that eat up VRAM, they can still have an enjoyable experience at 1440p in the years to come.

Yes but if they get a 1440p monitor whats the point of including a 4K one in your build? I personally think the 980ti would not be a good idea, maybe change the monitor in your build to 1440p, stay with the 980ti and if the budget allows it, go to the 1700?

I think you have forgotten that 1440p works on a 4K monitor too? But yes, it would be a good idea to change the monitor to 1440p monitor for an R7 1700, I guess it depends on what the user prefers really.
