[SOLVED] New Build, No Post

Go to solution Solved by kelvinhall05,

Are the HDD(s) new? If they still have a previous version of Windows with incorrect drivers it may not boot. Also, I agree, try using the ports on your GPU instead of the ones on your motherboard. One last thing: if you can, try taking everything out of the case and see if it boots fine that way. Maybe something is being shorted out (although I doubt anything would turn on if that was happening).

Hello, I just finished building my new computer. A several days ago, I had received my MB, GPU, RAM, CPU, and PSU. I plugged everything in, and I was able to reach the BIOS multiple times. I waited a little less than a week to finally put everything in the case. My MB's LEDs all turn on, and my case fans, CPU fan, PSU fan, and GPU fans all turn on. However, nothing shows onto my monitor.

SPECS:

MoBo: MSI B350M Gaming Pro

RAM: Corsair Vengeance LPX 8GB 2400MHz (1)

CPU: AMD Ryzen 5 1400

GPU: EVGA GeForce GTX 1050Ti

PSU: EVGA 450 B3

HDD: WD Blue 1TB, WD Black Caviar                   400GB

SSD: SanDisk 120GB

Case: Cooler Master Silencio 352

More Info:

  • BIOS: UEFI AMI BIOS ACPI 5.0, SM BIOS 3.0
  • I had previously been able to post with only the CPU, RAM, GPU, MB, & PSU
  • A little less than a week between being able to post to no post.
  • Front PWR LED sometimes turns on, sometimes doesn't
  • I have only tried the VGA port (havent tried the HDMI one yet) for the iGraphics, however I havent plugged in the VGA cord into my PSU (never planned on using VGA)
  • GPU does not require power from PSU
  • I touched the metal HDD cage in order to avoid shorting the system

Thank you for your time.

Hit me with anything that comes to mind... I'm desperate.

try it now

Actually, correction...

I did try the VGA port on my MB..

However I didnt plug in the VGA labeled cord into my PSU (never planned on using vga)..

If I want to try the HDMI port on my MB, I have to take it out cause some extra metal is partially blocking it.

Thing is I already tested my GPU, and it worked..

Thank you for your reply, I'll see if that fixes it

MSI B350M

And another one does another one bites the dust doesn't POST. Seriously stop buying these damn MSI AM4 boards! Issues every day.

Have not tried using integrated graphics

You don't have any integrated graphics. Only AMD APUs have those. Those display outs on the board do nothing if you have a Ryzen cpu. You should be plugging into the display outs on the gpu.

Honestly these boards are shit and its probably broken in some way. However how long have you waited? After building Ryzen's first POST takes around 1 full minute.

Remove the CMOS battery to reset it.

Try with only 1 stick of RAM in multiple different slots. You may have a dead stick or a dead slot.

I have tries using my GPU's ports.

I was able to get the GPU, CPU, RAM, PSU, MB to post last week

I bought this board because 3 ppl on my "help me with my first build" post recommended it.

I have waited the full minute.

I will try removing the battery..

Thank you!

Thank you! Yes I have 1 new HDD (WD Blue) and one new SSD

However my WD Black is from an old pc that a family member unfortunately messed up.

I'll give it a try!

No OS drivers are required to POST.

Worth a try.

Well something has obviously changed and/or broken. Resetting the CMOS by removing the battery will allow you to start again.

Disconnect them all and try again. If you make it to the BIOS. Try again with just the SSD.

I know that, but in my experience, Windows wouldn't boot if there were different drivers for older/different drivers.

See above. I think we were troubleshooting different issues. I thought he was saying no POST at all, aka can't get to BIOS. Not I can't boot windows. Otherwise a clean install would have been my 1st suggestion

Question then, will I ever be able to use that HDD? It has some good family pics on it..

Yeah, you will. If you can install Windows on another drive, you can hook it up (not booting from it) and copy the pictures to your boot (or storage) drive. Then you can use some software to wipe the drive, and you can reuse it.

Set up windows let it update and install drivers on the SSD.

Power down the computer. (switch it off at the PSU)

Reinstall the HDD

Try to boot. If you make it to windows you should be able to salvage what you need from the HDD then you should format it.

If you fail to boot (which would be peculiar) then that HDD is mechanically dead and data recovery will be harder.

IDK, it's fine. I'm not saying you're wrong, but whatever.
