So long story short. I have some old Hard drives from previous/old shitty computer and I want to access the data on them however they're pata drives not sata drives and so I need an adapter that will let me read the data off of my old PATA drives and place them onto my current system. Some of the data is valuable to me and I have kept them safe " except " one which was dog shit. Mostly going to grab photos and music files and anything else of interest off the drives.

NEVER GIVE UP. NEVER STOP LEARNING. DONT LET THE PAST HURT YOU. YOU CAN DOOOOO IT

If your motherboard still has the classic PCI slot, then this would work : https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816124009&ignorebbr=1

Otherwise, there's PCI-E x1 versions of the card : https://www.newegg.com/Product/Product.aspx?Item=N82E16816124054&ignorebbr=1

The USB solution should be slightly easier to use since you don't have to open your computer to insert the card and you also don't have to shut down the PC every time you change the hard drive, but generally the USB solutions are more problematic, the power supplies can fail in time, they can be slow at transferring files into the computer...

I'd go with the pci-e x1 solution, it has a nice controller chip. Even if you have PCI slots, I'd still say pay a bit more and get the pci-e card (you can plug it in pci-e x1, x4 or x16 slots) .. the pci card uses a VIA chip and most of these VIA chips can be a bit buggy or lack drivers for the newest operating systems.
