Intel HD 630 overclock

Lord Nicoll

I didn't think it was possible to overclock the iGPU, but apparently my BIOS has options for it, although the 1400MHz clock I set doesn't seem to be taking effect, however it also seems unstable as the GPUz render test crashes, I'm guessing overclocking the iGPU is a bad idea? Anyone have anything to say otherwise?

Yours faithfully

i think there is a setting in the intel drivers for overclocking on some igpu's but i'm not sure how much more power you would get vs temp increase.. especially if it is a laptop

Have you tried to perform a sudden temporary interrupt of the electricity flow to your computational device followed by a re-initialization procedure of the central processing unit and associated components?

Personal Rig Specs

well, it's an i7 7700K delidded with a 5-5.2GHz turbo boost (5.2GHz for 1 core, 5.1GHz for 2/3 core and 5GHz for 4 core)

well that is the processing power of it, but not the GPU..

this is from intels site regarding overclocking internal gpu's

Spoiler

Although not recommended, it is possible to overclock1 the graphics frequency (graphics ratio) for the Intel® processors listed here.

Note Only the Intel® processors listed here are capable of overclocking the graphics frequency; other Intel processors are not.

4th Generation Intel® Core™ i7 Processors

  • 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4790K Processor with Intel® Z97 Express Chipset
  • 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4790K Processor with Intel® H97 Express Chipset
  • 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4770K Processor with Intel® Z87 Express Chipset
  • 4th Generation Intel Core i7-4770K Processor with Intel® H87 Express Chipset
  • Intel Core i7 –H Series Processors:
    • i7-xx30MX Processor
    • i7-xx00MQ Processor
    • i7-xx50HQ Processor
    • i7-xx02MQ Processor

4th Generation Intel® Core™ i5 Processors

  • 4th Generation Intel Core i5-4690K Processor with Intel Z97 Express Chipset
  • 4th Generation Intel Core i5-4690K Processor with Intel H97 Express Chipset
  • 4th Generation Intel Core i5-4670K Processor with Intel Z87 Express Chipset

you'll get more back from purchasing a gpu than risking to destroy the igpu.. i would think at that level, a few extra frames won't be worth it for the instability issues or temperature increase.. with overclock it would perform equal to or maybe even just manage to outperform a 730.. but again, i think the real world results you will get is negligible..

why not get a cheap dedicated one? the 1050 starts at around 100 bucks..

you also won't have to dedicate system ram to the IGPU either

To maximize IGPU performance and overclocking headroom , first you'll need to remove all the CPU overclocks on your i7 to provide more headroom for your igpu to overclock , you might want to consider underclocking ur i7 by abit to push the igpu even harder , your i7 is never going to bottleneck ur hd 630 anyway .

Secondly , make sure you're running on a dual channel high speed ram  , 2400mhz or higher , and make sure its dual channel .

Lastly  , in order to push the IGPU clocks even higher try installing a beefier CPU cooler .

All these steps actually makes a lot of sense if you're on an ultra budget and you don't mind gaming on 720p .

You can overclock it but dont expect massive performance boost

Some games tested here before and after overclocking: Intel HD overclock
