How do SSDs work

Go to solution Solved by You_are_a_cunt,

HDDs: angry pixies spinning on plates. Slow because they get dizzy.

SSDs: angry pixies sitting neatly. Faster because they get enough rest.

I know this may sound like a dumb question but ive never really known.

I know SSDs make games loading times a bit faster but how do they work? Do they work for every game even if you installed the game to your hard drive or do you need to instal the game you want to be fast on the ssd?

HDD (Hard disk drive) uses Physical discs and a spinning head to read the data. SSD's use flash memory, which is generally much faster then spinning disks at launching and booting up data. Think of it as a Car engine vs a Electric car, the engine needs to ramp up with fuel injection and power to get the torque, wheras the electric is instant torque

It works by using flash memory instead of a spinning disk to read memory. You can think of flash memory like a slower version of RAM (in many senses of the term 'slower').

And in order for the SSD to work its magic, the application needs to be on it.
