Question... of the below two options, what will be quieter in an S340 Elite...?

NZXT Kraken X62 or

Cryorig H7 Quad Lumi with x2 Silent Wings 3 PWM 140mm fans front mounted

In both cases I would have two SW3 fans mounted top and rear as exhaust.

Cost wise, it is quite a bit more expensive for the X62, but I don't mind that if it would be that much quieter. If noisier however, no go.

I would recommend going with NZXT/Corsair for reliability.

If you can't afford both the silent wings fans and the cooler, then just deal with higher noise for a bit until you save up for the fans.

I can afford it, I'm just wondering what the quietest solution would be. However, I don't buy the reliability argument... whatever slim chance of an AIO going wrong is, there is still a chance, and the potential for damage. An air cooler is in that regard 100% more reliable than ANY AIO, because it simply doesn't have the damage potential.

Cryorig H7 would be quieter not entirely sure by how much need to check. But more expensive isn't the right word for an X62 since you are looking at mid level air cooler vs a high end AIO.

Benchmarks show it level pegging with Noctua, DRP3, so I wouldn't exactly say it's mid-level... it's slightly behind the top dogs, but only by a couple degrees.

If you want lowest noise get Dark Rock Pro 3

Actually the X62 has silent mode and it's pretty good

My bad, I though you were comparing a Cryorg AIO to an NZXT AIO, oops.

The quietest would be an air cooler since there is no pump, but if you get a good quality AIO and you don't have microbubbles running through it then it will be extremely quiet.

AIO pumps are quieter than what people think, it's just that many AIOs have a bit of air in them and unless you trap the air it will go through the pump and make a ton of noise.

BTW pick either a NH-D15 or Dark Rock Pro 3 instead of the cryorg cooler.

Yeah I had a Coolermaster AIO once and it did that.

I will be running a 7700K OC'd, but it's de-lidded so that helps. I would custom loop (as I have been doing for a few years now), but I need to have an easily portable rig, hence the move back to air.

Seems pointless to throw on aftermarket fans on a budget (well less so with the RGB H7). May as well get something with better cooling out of the box.

I'm not putting after market fans on anything.

Go with AIO for portable rigs, a lot less stress on the motherboard PCB than a massive heatsink.

Yes, that did occur to me. I won't be moving it far or going on long journeys though, so it won't be chucked about.

Re-read that looked like silent wings fans on the H7. On mobile.

Silent Wings would be front (intake), top and rear (exhaust) with H7 as stock... or potentially a DRP3... I know that would cool a touch better, although it's a bit noisier from what I've been reading, only by a couple db though so I shouldn't be too concerned about that. Again, how all this (air cooler + fans) would compare to the X62 with the pump I don't really know. Those AER RGB fans seem pretty decent. Pump noise/air bubbles could make all the difference though.

Well if you care about looks the NH-D15 is kinda out of the question.

The DRP3 is quieter though, and performs almost as good, so if you want air cooling go with that.

It will be significantly quieter than the NZXT AIO because of it's fans.

Pretty much all AIOs have loud stock fans that you would want to replace if you care about silence.

Agree on the NH-D15... my eyes bleed looking at that thing. DRP3 actually was my first choice, then I figured it wouldn't fit in my S340 Elite, but seems it actually does according to THIS.

It also has a POS mounting system... I had an old Dark Rock that was the same, and it was a real PITA to fit. Cryorig don't have this issue, which is what got me looking towards the H7 Quad Lumi which has an extra heat pipe over the standard H7, and that was already bumping uglies with the DRP3 performance wise, but at a couple dB less.

Decisions, decisions!

Actually... looks like the DRP3 is out due to my RAM being too tall. I have Corsair Dominator Platinum on a Z170 Asus VIII Hero... can't see it fitting. Bummer. :(

Cryorig H7 Universal is very quiet, and once it's installed I really can't complain for a $35 cooler.  Can't really tell a difference between my case fans (Arctic F12's), and I've got a tiny Inwin 301 with not-great airflow.

It's a genuinely good cooler that works well on basically anything, while not having the same height issue many of the other go-to coolers have.

SFF-ish:  Ryzen 5 1600X, Asrock AB350M Pro4, 16GB Corsair LPX 3200, Sapphire R9 Fury Nitro -75mV, 512gb Plextor Nvme m.2, 512gb Sandisk SATA m.2, Cryorig H7, stuffed into an Inwin 301 with rgb front panel mod.  LG27UD58.

Aging Workhorse:  Phenom II X6 1090T Black (4GHz #Yolo), 16GB Corsair XMS 1333, RX 470 Red Devil 4gb (Sold for $330 to Cryptominers), HD6850 1gb, Hilariously overkill Asus Crosshair V, 240gb Sandisk SSD Plus, 4TB's worth of mechanical drives, and a bunch of water/glycol.  Coming soon:  Bykski CPU block, whatever cheap Polaris 10 GPU I can get once miners start unloading them.

MintyFreshMedia:  Thinkserver TS130 with i3-3220, 4gb ecc ram, 120GB Toshiba/OCZ SSD booting Linux Mint XFCE, 2TB Hitachi Ultrastar.  In Progress:  3D printed drive mounts, 4 2TB ultrastars in RAID 5.

Yes it seems to get solid reviews. Seems to get labeled 'mid-level', but it's only a couple degrees off the top... no RAM compatibility issues either. I don't know if the Dark Rock 3 (non-Pro version) would have an issue there or not, as that's another option perhaps.

Unless you're putting it on something crazy, the H7 just works.  It's kind of a fiddly bastard to mount, but I'm more likely to see a bigger difference in temps from being a scrub that sucks at applying thermal paste than actually observing a 2-3 degree difference between the $35 H7 and something "better"
