Hello Guys, recently my main laptop,a Acer TravelMate P643-V had corrupted it's NTFS file system that I fixed, but since then it has a new HDD thing I see in CrystalDiskInfo which is Current Pending Sector Count on the HDD which makes the drive in Warning state,so I wonder what it is and is it really that so mission critical since it says when i hover over Warning:

Caution [C5]: Current Pending Sector Count:3

Now I have other things as well where i see some odd counts,is the drive near it's end of life? Windows has become slowww after 1-3 months of use

About time for it to fail but some are lucky some aren't it depends on the R/W cycles it has

Ok,I do have my 120 GB SSD that I pulled out of my old laptop (A ThinkPad R61,which served me much better than this laptop did, with a exception of a performance) Now I also know how to replace the drive in this, but is 120 GB gonna be enough for a Guy who does VM stuff and Games?

Looks like its time to demote it to a backup drive. Go to your local laptop re-seller and ask if they have any 500GB OEM drives pulled from upgrades. They are brand new and sell dirt cheap. Then buy a usb adapter for this drive.

https://kb.acronis.com/content/9133

Quote

Attribute ID: 197 (0xC5)

Hard drives, supporting this attribute

Samsung, Seagate, IBM (Hitachi), Fujitsu, Maxtor, Western Digital

Description

Current Pending Sector Count S.M.A.R.T. parameter is a critical parameter and indicates the current count of unstable sectors (waiting for remapping). The raw value of this attribute indicates the total number of sectors waiting for remapping. Later, when some of these sectors are read successfully, the value is decreased. If errors still occur when reading some sector, the hard drive will try to restore the data, transfer it to the reserved disk area (spare area) and mark this sector as remapped.

Please also consult your machines's or hard disks documentation.

Recommendations

This is a critical parameter. Degradation of this parameter may indicate imminent drive failure. Urgent data backup and hardware replacement is recommended.

This is the difference between enterprise and consumer drives. I bought some enterprise drives 10 years ago (still going) and the biggest difference is not just the speed/cache but the amount of space reserved is a lot more that the consumer drives of its time.

it depends on how messed up it is, a new 1tb is about $50-$55, get one and copy over your data because you never can be 100% sure it won't fail on you.

All you have is 3 sectors that are awaiting repair for which you can use the extended (or enhanced, I really don't know which is the correct word) test in the western digital data lifeguard diagnostics software to fix (or reallocate) them.

If you want to find out how much life the drive has, then use hard disk sentinel as even in the trial version it'll tell you how many more days of life the drive is expected to have.

Your hard drive has 32,664 head park count.

I suggest you check if the head park is set to 8 seconds, if it is you should set it to either 300 seconds or disabled.

You can use WDIDLE3 to fix it.

You also need to run chkdsk /f /r

Yeah, we're all just a bunch of idiots experiencing nothing more than the placebo effect.

I actually have a spare 500 GB HDD with my data (No worries,it has another partition I can install Windows too) and that drive is from 2014 and haven't seen anything wrong with it,But i might just stick my 120 GB SSD in it, (Not a lot of space, but I might get a external drive case for the 500 GB HDD),the SSD is expected to have no wrong stuff (less than a year old,so i dont expect issues)
