I am REALLY confused. I understand that a Sennheiser hd558 with a clip on mic will give me better sound quality than a razer kraken pro but I can not stop thinking about the 100 dollar price difference. I really dont know if this is worth spending the extra money on. I only Game and listen to music. I am not an audiophile either and all i want is to hear clear sharp details in game.

Razer headsets have always broken on me in weeks even with good care. The 558s will last much longer and sound much better if you do want an upgrade in the future. I owned a pair of 558s (now own 650s) and they were great headphones. Extremely good sound quality considering the price tag.

If you want sound with so much bass that every explosion you hear in game will destroy your ears and drown out everything else in the game than a gaming headset is for you! They even come with life expectancies up to six months!

But if you are like everyone else you will prefer clear sound where you can hear the detail in everything. Even if you are not an audiophile you will always appreciate good sound quality. Plus audiophile headphones have much better positional audio than anything Razer or steelseries can put out. (AD-700X is a prime example.

Are there any headphones with a positional accuracy close to the AD700s that are closed? I been thinking of getting a new headset and people keep telling me to get the AD700s but I don't like the fact that they are open

There is ATH-M50, tough I don't know how they perform in games. I think @Kiwiandapple owns a pair, I'd ask him. Other than that there is Sennheiser PC350 and PC363D.

I was around for the switch to hd 1080p I thought that it was absurd to make the switch away from my old crt monitors in 1440 X 900 or 1024 x 768 but once I made the switch to 1080 and above I cannot stand watching low res content anymore.

similarly making the switch from gaming headsets (fuck turtle beaches) to audio technicas and beyerdynamics its equally hard to consume content with lesser quality.

Hah, no you missunderstood that. I listened to them a couple off times. 1 time with music (omg this is where I absolutely loved that thing!) 1 time in game since a friend off mine has them. I played league, cs 1.6 (this used to be the game i was semi-pro in!) and rift. Overall I had no complains, only that I suck in CS 1.6 compared how I used to be. I used to have Sennheisers HD 555s when I played at high level and im completely out off practice, so can blame it on that. But with the HD 555 I had a better idea where people were based on the sound I got back, compared to the M50s. But this was only very slightly worse for me and could be blamed on the fact that I did not touch the game for a long time, it was only a mather off distance. I sometimes tought people were closer then they actually were.

I could recommend the ATH-M50s for closed headphones, with a cheap microphone. Blue snowflake for example. This will be much better then the Razer Kraken. I just went to amazon for that mic, but have a look around - there will likely be better pricing for this. Altough NCIX was more expensive! ^^

Steelseries Siberia v2 are awful too.

Correct. I never liked Steelseries headsets, I had one, the 5H and did not enjoyed the sound and microphone from that thing.

You don't have to get an HD 558, there's cheaper headphones that still sound good like the Pioneer SE-A1000

no, theres a reason its one of the most popular headsets and most pros use it, along with a40. get back to ur nerdy headphones and desk mic faggot.

The reason on why they use it so much is because they are sponsored by those companies and is basically having them advertise their products.

Just because it's popular doesn't mean it's good. Nerdy? You're on a forum full of nerds, and assuming you found this forum by watching Linus, also makes you a nerd (I guess). Don't be so hypocritical.
