Looking for some headphones...

Heya!

Been reading up on headphones and headsets for ages... tired of my crap Dell speakers, lol.

I would say around $180 is my limit as I'm new to this, this is for PC use, gaming/music... may need suggestions for a 2nd headphone as well for ipod/phone but seperate budget.

I listen to a lot of different styles of music, Metal or Rock(all types) Electronica, Instrumentals, Reggae.

So far my top two are the DT770 and or the Sennheiser 558... they look nice, I would prefer closed but is open really that noticeable to others?

Another thing, I live in the desert and it gets insanely hot here... reaches 130% in the summer sometimes, now I won't be using these outside but I don't know what type of ear cups would be comfortable in temps of 79 to 90%.

I thought cloth ear cups would be better than leather ear cups but I keep hearing how hot they are, so thought I'd ask you guys.

Also want to say that I can't go out and try headphones out myself as I'm disabled and can't get around much at the moment, so yeah I have to buy and hope I like them, lol.

You'll want an open headphone to exhaust some

Of the heat from your ears. Cloth pads are definitely a must in hot weather.

The 558 would probably be a better option.

558's are probably your best bet

Thanks fellas, would these have decent volume for an ipod as well? or should I use these strictly for PC use with a DAC?

Have you had a look at the AD700x? The only pair of headphones till this day that properly fit my head and ears :)

they are tight on the head but at the same time super comfy, I highly reccomend them :)

They aren't very bass heavy though, but unless you are a basshead you'll be fine

Cloth on those is warmer than traditional velour like on the 558, however.

I haven't had much experience with them, they are a christmas present and I could only adore them for a few hours. I still dream of how comfy they are...

Just a warning to the OP. ;)

If you personally grow tired of the clamp, you can bend the support bars out a little. Did that with my 500X's.

Thanks for the suggestion bud, they look awesome but I've heard that the AD700's were very very big... did they fix that with the 700X?

I wear medium sized hats(like 23 inches)... I always get worried things are too big for me since I'm around 5'2 tall, lol

Yeah I would probably skip them if you have a small head. I wear a size 8 hat, and they fit me just so. DT 990's/558's would probably be better.

Thanks bud, I think I'll do that then... have you guys heard of Grado's? I'm kind of curious about the sr80i and sr60i

If you listen to metal/rock/pop they're fantastic. SR80i's are really good for that genre.

I do recommend picking up these pads for them though.

They're pricey but you can find something VERY similar on eBay for around $20.

Thanks! I might buy both headphones... Metal is what I listen to most.
