Remembering goastly encounter

Totally random I know lol. I Don't know why this has been bothering me lately, but here goes. When I was about 12 (I'm 21 now) some wired crap was going at my neighbors house. For about a month or so all kinds of stuff like voices and stuff moving and you name it happened at this house. Nothing happened before or after that one month. It's a mildly creepy house ill admit. I'm not sure how old it is but I remember them saying it was remodeled in the 70s. A couple other wired things were that they pulled a hundred or so empty wine bottles from the crawl space under the house at one point and they found a hidden attic attached to the garage full of old oil paintings, papers, dolls and other random stuff that had been completely boarded over, had no ladder leading to it, and was not in the blue prints for the house. During that month one particular encounter happened that still bugs me to this day. Me and the house owners two sons who were my friends were investigating the back yard after they herd weird noises coming from back their. We stood back to back and they watched the half of the yard toward the fence while I faced the house. After a little while a shadow figure appeared in the window on the back of the garage. It looked like the man, not really a shadow, but was completely dark like a shadow. I yelled for them to  look, and as they turned it ducked. I was frustrated and said whatever and they went back to checking their end of the yard. But when they did it piped up again. This went on for a while and every time they turned it ducked so I looked like the boy who cried wolf. After 20 minutes or so it disappeared and I gave up on trying to get them to see it. In the years since I have tried to explain it away. Maybe it was one of their shadows shifting as they turned or one of their friends hiding in the garage playing a joke. But I can't shake the ominous feeling that shadow gave me. Like it was something real. Like it wanted them to think I was crazy. Anyone know what might have happened. Can a shadow have depth and curves like a person given the right light? What the hell was that thing in the garage window? Hope you guys found this interesting.
