FreeNAS - Can be NAS and have plugins for MC sever support. 

 

You shouldn't run a router OS through VM such as PFSENSE, for security reasons and i don't think freenas supports pfsense officially, you need to test (FREENAS 11).

If it is supported you could run VMWare on it. The ESXi Hypervisor is free to use.

I'm using ESXi 6.5 (Free license) to run FreeNAS and Windows Server 2016 - works quite well. Not sure how pfSense plays with running as a VM - I'm sure it's doable, but may not be officially supported.
