Only issue that I see is that it's going to cost about 1,200 to get everything you'd like such as 16GB of RAM or more and a 500GB M.2 SSD.

it will be worth the investment, storage won't be an issue, you could get cheap 500 gb drives for mass storage.

i would get the 7820hq if you can afford it but the 7300 or 7440hq will do fine.

I'm sure it would, but you can find something a bit better like a Lenovo Yoga quad-core at Best Buy for $800 and add an extra 8GB and a larger SSD for a bit less.

I'd go for the straight quad-core. HT, if not managed by the OS, will drain battery more significantly when barely in use.

Thinkpad Yoga is part of the Thinkpad line-up. The Yoga only refers to the combination of ease-of-use features such as touch-screen and trackpoint with convertibility.

really useless, OP will need a pen and paper for that, engineering is mostly lecture notes and math. i would go for the 7820hq if OP can afford it, that 940mx will help out in a lot of programs.

Some Thinkpads (such as the one that I'm speaking of) have a stylus (super-precise) that can help out if OP is ever walking around and needs to make notes or rough sketches.

nothing beats good old pen and paper also i would highly suggest OP to use pen and paper for all the notes.

I'd do the same, but it's still good to have the notes in the cloud or on a HDD in case SHTF or you need to send notes or drawings to someone.

I'll probably be pen and paper. I like to have everything physically in front of me.
