Buying new flagship

JohnnyAlmi

Hi! I am looking to buy a new phone. For this one, price won't matter as for last one. I'd like to buy the best one. For now, I'd go with LG G6. Sony Xperia XZ Premium has huge bezzels, Samsung S8/S8+ has ton of bloatware, OnePLus 5 is meh, HTC U11 is near.. what are your experiences? Would it be worth waiting a new LG - V30 (end of year) and G7 (beginning of next year) and maybe bezzeles Sony? What do you think?

There's a lot of high end phones coming out this fall. Pixel 2, iPhone 7S, Note 8, etc.

Right now I'd say your best choice would be the S8.

Depends on if you want to wait.

I have an iphone 7 plus and still wouldnt trade it for anything out there now.

The iphone 8 and google pixel 2 would have me interested though if i was looking for a phone.

The s8 is a no go for me though. Too fragile, too full of bloatware, the screen is too narrow and distorted by tge curve on the edges. The overall size seems larger on paper because its a tall display, but height is less important than width to me.

If you're interested in it, you could take an s8 and flash some other custom rom onto it. You would lose some of the nice stuff that comes with touchwiz though, like the cropping videos and stuff.

What exactly matters for you in a phone though? For some people different things matter more than others. For me, software updates and stuff matter a lot but for others they don't.

Buy whatever product is best for you, not what product is "best" for the market.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.

Welcome to the forum!

I wouldn't go with anything LG until it's been out for a bit and you can make sure that it's not going to have any boot looping issues. They might have fixed it, but they also might still exist.

I wouldn't get the Xperia XZP for the same reasons as you, plus there's rumors out that they'll be releasing an XZ1 Premium (seriously Sony you need to fix your nomenclature) in the fall. It's supposed to have a 6" screen with the same ratio as the S8.

The LG V30 would be interesting. The new Asus phones should also be extremely interesting, they should be releasing the Zenfone 4s soon. Th Essential PH-1 is a gorgeous device, I think that should be mighty high on your list. It's basically a true flagship version of what OnePlus tries to do. The Note8 will be beastly, though rumored fingerprint sensor placement makes it a no go for me.

It's kind of tough to say what phone's "best". It'd be easier if you told us what you use your phone for, and what features you want. Don't bother waiting for the G7, it won't come out until spring next year, and honestly if you're waiting that long you might as well wait for the Samsung S9.

There's this thing

I think this is one of the best phones to come out this year, absolutely tiny, huge screen, tons of storage.

If the camera is on par with the Pixel, it's a definite win.

Bands shouldn't be too much of an issue, it has an extremely extensive portfolio.

I have a S8 and there isn't too much bloatware that it comes installed with. And you can uninstall almost all of it if you want, but at the end it's up to you which phone you want. I recommend the S8, it's a great phone and hasn't slowed down for me at all so far. I would also wait for Pixel 2, Note 8, and V30 in a couple months.

Thanks guys!

Essential is not available outside US for pre-orders. iPhone is a no go since I would also use phone for Android testing (sorry for not saying that in first post).

I would use phone for, as I said Android testing, surfing web, music, some games here and there and occasional photo. It's not too demanding, but I'd like to get updates to, or have Android O from start (as with new Pixel) and probably for Android P next year.

Atm I have Jiayu and I am flashing custom roms which takes too much time - need clean installs all the time.

S8 has hardly any bloatware compared to old Samsung phones

Based on what you said, you dont seem to care about iOS. Lets look the each of the phones you mentioned one by one.

1. Sammy S8: Looks great, feels great in hand. Phone is fragile. Bloatware, yes. But lower than before. can be cleared out.

2. LG G6: Decent little guy. The primary feature of android is the app drawer. LG does away with that. That is a bigger problem. You could throw on a launcher but the weird quirks of LG's skin still remain. People have called it "the first draft of galaxy s8".  Boot looping issues as others have mentioned. BUT. AMAZING CAMERA. Like Dual lens worth worshipping.

3. Oneplus 5: Oneplus done goofed here; camera is pretty disappointing, design is basically an iphone 7plus. Bezels and 1080p. Still lower than the other flagships but not by much.

4. Sony XZ 4k: That display....i dunno what to say here. I dont think its worth. And design isnt really anything ground breaking.

5. H(elp)T(he)C(ompany) U11: If you wanna squeeze the phone, sure. Only on sprint in US.

Upcoming:

Pixel 2: Follow up the pixel 1, great phone, ugly design. Pixel 2 should fix that. Wait and see. https://www.androidcentral.com/google-pixel-2

LG V30: Basically LG's counter to Sammy's note line. Packed full of features, great build as before. Wait and see.

The next few months are going to interesting for phones with releases for Note 8, iPhone 8 and more. I would say wait and see.

EDIT: Just realized, shoud've added more LTT videos, cause its an LTT forum
