Motherboard/cpu check

Hi there,

I was looking to slot in another gtx 970 to run as SLI as I'm looking to upgrade my monitor to a 100hz 1440p ultrawide monitor.

I currently have this motherboard and cpu:

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/gfYXsY/gigabyte-motherboard-gaz97mxgaming5

https://au.pcpartpicker.com/product/Tvzv6h/intel-cpu-bx80646i54690k

now, when I initially bought the components I bought it with SLI in mind. the motherboard SAYS it's SLI compatible, but am little confused with the 16x slots

it says:

  1. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x16 (PCIEX16)
    * For optimum performance, if only one PCI Express graphics card is to be installed, be sure to install it in the PCIEX16 slot.

  2. 1 x PCI Express x16 slot, running at x8 (PCIEX8)
(The PCIEX16 and PCIEX8 slots conform to PCI Express 3.0 standard.)
    * The PCIEX8 slot shares bandwidth with the PCIEX16 slot. When the PCIEX8 slot is populated, the PCIEX16 slot will operate at up to x8 mode..

so it works, but doesn't utilise the x16 slot? or does it cause any bottlenecks?

if anyone could clarify, please help.

thanks in advance,

Ray

They will both run at 8x, not a problem.
