Hello! I'm new here!

I was looking for some information on this, but I can't find anything so I thought I'd ask directly. I just picked up a brand new LG V20 today. My carrier is AT&T. To my knowledge, there's supposed to be hidden developer options available on this phone that are revealed by tapping "Build Number" 7 times in the general settings menu. But Build Number is not here on the V20. :c

Does AT&T disable the ability to access developer options on devices under their service? I ask because I upgraded from a Note 4 and wanted to access it's developer options some time ago, which I could do. But there was a critical menu item missing in the dev settings on my phone that I saw in the YouTube tutorial so I couldn't go any further.

For both phones, the reason I'm doing this is so I can just use my phone as a simple flash drive instead of using the really cumbersome and awful proprietary file transfer software both Samsung and LG force the use of (the latter of which doesn't seem to detect my phone). Neither of my PC's will recognize the devices otherwise. I just want to drag and drop my files onto my phone, but I can't seem to do that unless I enable something in the developer options...which I can't access. ;c

Any help would be great!

You don't need to touch any Dev options to set the phone in file transfer (MTP) mode

Connect phone to PC, phone will show a notification saying its charging. Tap the notification to select MTP

And then you will be able to access your phone's storage from Computer like you would with any removable media

Not for me. I wouldn't be trying to get to developer options or asking for help online if for years, the easiest method didn't work on 3 different computers with 4 different phones (I've had the same problem with 2 iPhones in the past).

What happens when you try to do it the way I described? Does the notification for charging appear when you connect to PC?

Literally nothing. Just shows a lightning bolt over the battery symbol to show it's charging. Which is has no function at all.

I see. No option to enter Dev and no notifications. Sounds like a botched Android installation issue. Try a factory reset. Also when its connected to PC, go into device manager to see if the phone is detected and any error messages. If factory reset doesn't work, try connecting to another computer. If still nothing, get the phone replaced.

Tried this just before you answered.

This was the exact same story with my Note 4 on two separate PC's one with Win7, the other with 10 (and my two previous iPhones, but I think that's a different issue).

I really think AT&T has something to do with it because on my Note 4 and on this phone there are very specific options that are completely missing from the phone, both involving the use of Developer Options. The Note 4 had access to developer options, but was missing the critical OEM option. And this V20  just outright cannot access them period; You're supposed to tap Build Number under About Device 7 times....Build Number is not available on my phone, but it is for  other  people with different carriers. I only want to access Dev options for the reasons stated in my OP.

I'm not certain on this being fact, but I fully believe AT&T has also disabled MTP on their phones altogether to disallow users from doing certain things like rooting because it doesn't sit right with me that every which angle taken to have full access to not one but two devices both end in the exact same ways. Unless someone else can verify otherwise, I think they have something to do with it, but it's just a hunch of mine.

EDIT: It also does not make sense to me that it is literally only phones that I'm having this issue with connecting to my PC's. So that's the other issue...
The whole issue is just sketchy.

Well I'm out of ideas if none of my suggestions work. I know the American carriers are arseholes but I doubt they go to the extent of disabling MTP. Its a futile effort because whats stopping anyone from transferring their files through the many file sharing apps like Google Drive?

I'm not in or from America and have no experience with the nonsense your ISPs are up to over there. If you have not already tried, to factory reset the phone or connect to another computer.

It's alright. Thank you for trying.

I live in America and I don't understand what in the world is going on so don't feel bad. The last thing I'm trying to do is call them up and just confront them about it because I don't feel like being talked at and patronized. I've had the device less than 24 hours so I can attempt a factory reset, though I can't say I see it helping. I'll also be heading to a friend's later today so I can attempt to connect to his, though again, I don't know if it'll help. :c
