I used to have an LG G3 until the LCD driver started to fail and I upgraded to an S7. Already I've noticed YouTube videos don't get the S7 as hot or drain the battery as fast as they used to on my G3. they both have the same 3000mah battery but the S7 lasts waaaaaay longer than my G3 did. I can watch hours of YouTube videos with the brightness cranked all the way up while my G3 would brain from 100% to 0% in about an hour maybe 2 max. I wonder if there's some kind of hardware acceleration in there but I can't find any reliable info online.

They all get some hardware acceleration.

i think this is the s7 processor.

it lists the codecs it supports near the bottom

https://www.qualcomm.com/products/snapdragon/processors/820

basically some of the html5 spec codecs get CPU support and the CPU itself is quite new and efficient. It likely has a smaller die than your other phone but you can ask google to confirm that

Not necessarily smaller die. It's 14nm FF vs 28nm we're talking about, so naturally the s7 is gonna be more efficient. Add in the improvements of kryo over krait as well as the gpu and you've got something that will consume vastly less power while giving similar performance.

Interested in computer architecture? Still in middle or high school? P.M. me!

I love computer hardware and feel free to ask me anything about that (or phones). I especially like SSDs. But please do not ask me anything about Networking, programming, command line stuff, or any relatively hard software stuff. I know next to nothing about that.
