How good is my pc for editing?

Good day fellas,im just here to ask if my pc specs are good enough for 1080p 60fps video editing?

 

Processor-FX 8300 8 core at 3.3 ghz not overclocked

 

GPU-Radeon RX 480 evga 8gb not overclocked

 

RAM-8gb DDR3 single stick

 

Motherboard-an asus,dont know the model sorry

 

SSD-samsung 120gb-only for system use and not editing

 

HDD-1TB toshiba (baracuda i think)

 

Those are my pc specs

The reason im asking this is becouse during video editing i have very choppy playback

 

PS.render times arent an issue,i just want something that will support 1080p 60fps video for ease of editing without the choppy playback

 

And Mods please if this post is in the wrong section move it,i couldnt find one that would match what im asking.

If the playback is choppy then your PC (or the CPU, to be specific) is not good enough. Try overclock it if your PSU is good. If you have the money, it will be better to get new Ryzen cpu, mobo and ram.

 

fyi, barracuda is the name for Seagate hard disks

I have a 750W power supply so probably could do it,but i have heard that overclocking these chips makes them extremly unstable

 

And thanks for the barracuda thing,actualy could it be that the hard drive read speed is to slow?

Try editing a file from the SSD instead of the HDD, don't know how old it is but that might be a problem.

Monitor the RAM usage while editing.

Try to overclock the cpu to see whether that makes any difference.

1. Don't go over 4.4GHz and 1.4V for the CPU. Lower the clock speed more if it crashes.

 

2. Unlikely. Can it play games fine? If yes then the hard drive is fine.

1. i have the stock cooler it came with so im not shure if it could cool it enough

Monitor its temperature with HWINFO when running a stress test like AIDA64. If it gets hotter than 85C then lower the voltage. If it gets unstable with reduced voltage, lower the clock speed as well.

Your processor and RAM may be bottlenecking the system. Especially since you are using a single stick of memory. FX series processors are based off of a very old CPU architecture, getting close to a decade old IIRC, so when you save up enough money, you should probably upgrade. Your best and only upgrade path with your system as it stands would be getting another 8GB stick of memory. Also, what editing software are you using? If you're using Premiere or one of the more popular titles, make sure that GPU acceleration is turned on so that you can take advantage of the extra power that your video card offers you.

I am using lightworks,and im amaized the cpu cant handle it,the thing runs anything else flawlessly and never goes over 50C... i guess the ram could be the issue,it has maxed out more then one while editing

You have to remember that with most other tasks, like watching video, playing games, etc, can take advantage of hardware acceleration offered on your GPU. Video editing however, will benefit from having more memory available because, depending on how complex you are getting with your videos, it can consume a lot of RAM and disk space. Also, when your RAM is maxing out, you will definitely see the problem you mentioned. Add to this the fact that it isn't working in dual channel mode can hinder your system's performance as well.

Well the thing is,i do not remmember what model my RAM is so i cant buy a second stick,i would have gotten a second stick by now if i did

 

also when im editing a fairly small file (4 ish gb) The playback is Always choppy even with only 10% of my memory being used

Actualy i right now am looking at my cpus speeds while editing and it sometimes spikes to 3.6 and 4.2 ghz,does this mean its already overclocked somehow?
