Here's what happens.

I turn on my PC, but it immediately places itself in a crash loop. This happens 9 out of 10 times I turn on my PC.

I then turn off the power supply, stopping the crash loop.

I remove the SATA power cable from the power supply and then connect it back into the exact same spot.

I turn on the power supply and press the power button of the PC.

It then turns on properly... However this is only temporary as the next time I will have to power back on it usually crashes again.

The problem never occurs when the HDD isn't connected to the PSU. Btw I've swapped out SATA power cables and that didn't fix it.

I have had this problem for  while and I thought I fixed it by sending back the hard drive to toshiba and getting a new one back. That worked for a couple days but now the problem is back...

So in the end there's only 2 things likely to cause the problem, right?

1. The power supply

2. Another defective HDD

(3. Or both?)

I'd really like your guys' input on this as I'm not sure how to proceed in fixing this issue.

(A YT playlist of me showing the issue and temporarily fixing it. )

without any system specs, i have to just guess, but i doubt it's your power supply,
have you run WD diagnostics or similar hdd scan? (WD diag is compatible with non-WD drives)
if one drive is giving you issues, you should backup and reformat it, if it persists, get a new drive as i wouldn't trust a faulty one

please post a full list of your hardware, OS and peripherals connected

Have you tried to perform a sudden temporary interrupt of the electricity flow to your computational device followed by a re-initialization procedure of the central processing unit and associated components?

As I mentioned, I have already returned a drive with the same issues back to toshiba and gotten the same type of drive back. Which worked fine for a few days but now the problem is back. Do you really think I got 2 faulty drives?

Here's what I fear most, the PSU is bad and is actively bricking my HDD's. Could this be the case or is it too unlikely?

Thanks for taking the time to respond to me btw :)

it is unlikely, but that happened with my brother when he bought seagate nas disks that failed almost immediately, got new ones on warranty and another drive was DOA, so i'm not totally ruling it out, which is why i suggested you run WD Diag just to be sure.. wd diag is bootable, so any windows issues that might cause it is eliminated completely

but change sata cables, change sata port and use another sata power cable from your psu if you havent already..

a power supply failing in such a specific way i would say is unlikely. especially in a 80+ Gold psu . usually if something is wrong it either shuts off or shortcircuits

do you have another harddrive to test with? or see if you can get a free working hdd, only needs to be like 20gb for testing, so getting a free drive from a discarded system shouldn't be impossible.
